Why study this program?
Workforce in diverse industries throughout the world, albeit vast differences in their environmental, social, economic, and political circumstances experience virtually similar types of workplace risks. These risks or hazards are generally classified into four broad categories: physical, biological, chemical and psychosocial.
Overtime the basic principles and evidence base in occupational health and safety management (OHSM) has emerged into a composite discipline creating an immense demand for specialist personnel who are trained to focus on welfare of the workforce. The main focus of this present-day broad specialty is to promote and espouse a high level of physical, mental and social wellbeing of workers in all occupations and neutralize the risks to health with a stringent commitment towards evidence based preventive medicine.
Occupational health and safety (OHS) is a charismatic discipline which assures that all the major elements of health related to work are considered and best practice guidance developed and enforced. Present day occupational health practice gives particular impetus to preventive strategies and policy to extenuate risks of cancers, accidents, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, communicable diseases and psychosocial morbidity. The progressive discipline of ergonomics and occupational health psychology are also attracting intense contemplation from professional organizations and corporate houses.
Occupational health and safety management is recognized worldwide as a basic determinant of global economic development. It has been included as a fundamental element of human rights by the United Nations in a special report on global health in 2012. The WHO has delineated a blueprint for occupational health in the WHO Global Plan for Workers Health, 2008-2017 and supports a network of partnering centers worldwide.
This is a distance online learning program that provides an extensive knowledge and training related to worker’s health and safety. The main aim of the program is to develop specialists with an intense research aptitude to promote and transform conventional occupational health practice into an evidence based interdisciplinary exercise. Participants are mentored and also expected to interact with the faculty and co-participants via the e-Campus. This program in occupational health and safety management prioritizes knowledge related to present day occupational health and safety concerns with a comprehensive study of the applicable regulatory and legal requirements. This program also fosters occupational health specialists to develop a thought process that focuses on identifying risks at the work place and develop effective prevention strategies.
