INTRODUCTION

Why study this program?

Introduction

Public health management (PHM) is a basic pillar of public health process and delivery. A robust and evidence based management practice is a primary requirement for public health teams, departments and programs to successfully implement scientific advancements for the betterment of public health and a success towards health-for-all goals at the grass-roots level. Traditionally Public health encompasses health policy, practice and academic research, however bridging the gaps to facilitate an interdisciplinary framework requires sufficient management knowledge at all levels and functions. Management principles empower Public health professionals to activate and engage local, regional, national and international resources to assure an efficient, ethical and equitable healthcare delivery.

A landmark declaration from the World Health Organization (WHO) titled, Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health: Workforce 2030 puts a significant weight on the importance management practice in public health delivery (http://www.who.int/hrh/resources/pub_globstrathrh-2030/en/). The WHO in this document emphasizes the critical requirement of management principles in developing a well-trained and committed public health workforce so as to promote public health policy and programs with better outreach and with intended quality.

Being fully aware about this demand in the public health arena, James Lind Institute has developed a well-rounded and comprehensive program called Professional Diploma in Public Health Management (PDPHM) which intends to bridge the skills-need-gap and develop public health leaders who can efficiently shoulder the local, national and international public health program from concept through implementation.

PDPHM provides learners with in-depth knowledge about the most demanding areas of public health practice and the critical management skills relevant to perform as an efficient team member with the leadership brilliance for catalysing result oriented operations of public health programs.
